Quantum science and technology

For quantum leaps in science and technology

Quantum mechanics is unlocking transformative possibilities for technology and innovation. Its unique properties are enabling advances in computation, simulation, communication and sensing. Over the past century, quantum physics has led to groundbreaking innovations – from transistors and lasers to MRI scanners, and even the smartphones we use every day. Building on its legacy in quantum science and technology, ETH Zurich is pushing the boundaries of both foundational research and real-world applications.

Join the quantum revolution

Make a gift

Our goal

Established in 2020, the Quantum Center is ETH Zurich’s central hub for quantum science and technologies. Today, it unites over 600 physicists, computer scientists, chemists, engineers, and material scientists working across quantum sensing, simulation, communication, computing, and fundamental science.

Quantum research has the potential to reshape our daily lives. Quantum computers may solve problems beyond the reach of current systems. Advances in quantum technologies could revolutionise cybersecurity, support new drug development, and enable ultra-precise quantum sensing in medicine, navigation, and environmental monitoring.

Realising the full potential of quantum science and technology requires a highly skilled workforce and ongoing investment in research and development. Supporting this field today means helping to drive early breakthroughs and shape its future, with many exciting directions yet to be explored.

Your support enables

  • the strengthening of Switzerland’s position as a leader in the development of quantum technologies, such as quantum computing;
  • the transformation of disciplines such as healthcare, energy, telecommunications, finance, and fundamental science;
  • the support of top researchers from around the world through doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships;
  • the advancement of equal opportunity initiatives to enhance diversity in the field;
  • innovations and the translation of research from lab to market.
