A dedicated couple
Hedwig and Peter Stauffer-Huber were inspired by the outstanding young talent at the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geomatic Engineering at ETH Zurich to include ETH in their will.

Hedwig and Peter Stauffer-Huber led modest and dedicated lives, carefully using their own resources while at the same time showing generosity to friends and family. Hedwig Stauffer-Huber was a skilled craftswoman. With her dressmaking skills, she often designed clothes for members of the family. She made all her clothes herself, including the ballgown in the photo.
Peter Stauffer-Huber was a fire prevention specialist in the buildings insurance department of the canton of Bern. Through his work, he came into contact with ETH and, in particular, with Professor Mario Fontana (now an emeritus professor) from the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG), who specialised in the fire simulation of buildings.
After the death of her husband, Hedwig Stauffer-Huber decided, at the suggestion of her nephew, Professor Lorenz Hurni from D-BAUG, to leave a legacy for talented young people at ETH. Thanks to her far-sighted commitment, Excellence Scholars at D-BAUG now benefit from this support.
