In many low- and middle-income countries, legal services are barely affordable for individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises. At the same time, conventional AI tools reach their limits when it comes to dealing with legal matters. Their answers are often not sufficiently reliable because they are not based on verified legal content and specialist legal expertise.

With Lex Pro Se, George Boateng is developing an AI-powered WhatsApp platform that provides accessible, affordable and reliable legal service. Users submit their questions directly via WhatsApp, whether they concern a legal case, drafting of a contract or review of an agreement. The platform provides an easy-to-understand response and also offers a “Lawyer Verify” option, through which legal experts review the AI-generated answer and correct it where necessary. An initial pilot is planned in Ghana.

As part of the Social Impact Pioneer Fellowship, George Boateng will further develop the technology, validate the business model and prepare to establish a start-up with a social impact.
