What is the Founder's Pledge?

The Founder’s Pledge is a simple way for all ETH Zurich founders to give back if their company is successful.

With the Pledge, you make a personal, non-binding promise to support ETH Zurich with a donation (e.g. towards funding the programs to promote entrepreneurship). You determine the amount, timing, and purpose of the donation.

Who can take the Pledge and how does it work?

All ETH alumni who have founded a company or own shares in one can take the Founder’s Pledge. Simply fill out the online form or contact us directly so we can send you the form via email (pledge@ethz-foundation.ch).

Whenever the time is right for you – for example, in the event of steady profits or a takeover – we will be happy to assist you with your donation to ETH Zurich.

Is the Pledge binding?

No, the Founder’s Pledge is not legally binding.

Is there a minimum amount?

No, every donation is valuable and strengthens ETH Zurich and its startup ecosystem.

Support can be large or small, one-off or recurring over several years – your donation is personal and tailored to your individual situation and wishes.

What if my company does not become successful?

The Pledge has no legal obligation and remains voluntary.

In the spirit of “fail forward”, the failure of your first company may help you be more successful with your second, and fulfill the Pledge at a later date.

Is the contribution tax-deductible?

All donations to the ETH Foundation are tax-deductible.

What if I have already made a significant donation due to a previous startup success?

Belated recognition is possible and welcome! Please get in touch.
