Contactless, automated, and cost-efficient corrosion inspection
Pioneer Fellow Lukas Bircher is developing an innovative, contactless technology with TALPA-Inspection to detect corrosion damage in reinforced concrete structures such as tunnels and bridges. The inspection is cost-efficient, time-saving, and sustainable, as it can be performed without heavy equipment, excavation work, or lengthy road closures. The use of conventional drones and robots equipped with the new sensor technology enables more efficient and automated inspections. This allows for the early detection of damage, facilitating targeted and cost-effective repairs. Ultimately, this technology contributes to the safe and long-term use of the infrastructure.
