Dr Maren Brehme, a Senior Researcher in Professor Martin Saar’s Geothermal Energy and Geofluids group at ETH Zurich, has been appointed the leader of the group in a program that entails field work, laboratory work and simulation to help identify and unlock the potential of geothermal energy around the world. Before coming to ETH Zurich, Dr. Brehme worked as an Assistant Professor at TU Delft and a Research Scientist at the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.

With a vision to create a sustainable energy future, Energi Simulation, a not-for-profit, will contribute $540,000 Canadian dollars (414,000 CHF) via ETH Foundation, spread over a three-year term, to support Dr Brehme’s research program.

Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, said of the financial support from Energi Simulation: “This generous funding supports the urgent search for solutions for a more sustainable energy future. We are always very glad to undertake strong partnerships to drive forward the key strategic topic of energy at ETH.”

Duke Anderson, President of Energi Simulation, commented on this new partnership: “We welcome Dr Brehme into the Energi Simulation family! Our unique global network is composed of researchers in energy resource modelling and focuses on industry collaboration and technology transfer. We look forward to a long and productive relationship with ETH Zurich!”
