For pain-free administration of medication

Currently, numerous illnesses can only be treated by injecting medication, which is often painful, as medicine cannot be administered orally in tablet form. These often revolutionary medical agents cannot pass through the intestinal mucosa or are simply digested in the gastrointestinal tract.

Pioneer Fellow Nevena Paunović and Co-Founder David Klein Cerrejon’s technology may make painful injections redundant in the future. Their small patches can be applied by patients themselves to the inside of the cheek, where they deliver the medication into the body. This innovative formulation increases the absorption of the medication by the body by up to 150 times compared to a conventional tablet.
