Cost-effective monitoring of the subsurface

Pioneer Fellow Edoardo Pezzulli is developing software that makes it easier for construction and engineering companies to monitor their environmental projects. This is especially true for hydrogen or CO₂ storage facilities, where the risk of gas leaks must be minimized. Monitoring such storage facilities can be very expensive, sometimes accounting for half of the total cost of environmental projects.

SUSTAIN’s software uses a unique combination of advanced geomechanical simulators, probabilistic inversion algorithms and specific geological models to accurately map underground processes in real-time. It provides valuable information on pressure and temperature in the reservoir and is also more cost-effective than previous methods.
